Coby Electronics, incorporated in 1990, opens its doors for business for the first time in New York City. Located in a warehouse in Maspeth, Queens, the first Coby employees were treated to stunning views of the Empire State Building from across the East River.

Although Coby products are meeting with success, Mr. Lee's vision to provide unique, stylish, and affordable products to everyone requires custom manufacturing capabilities. To realize his dream, Coby takes a big step by forming partnership with a first factory.
California Dreamin'
Coby has already become New York City's de facto house brand, but pushes west with a distribution center located in Los Angeles, California. This lays the groundwork for Coby's growth into a national brand.
Coby takes their products to South Beach
Coby continues its expansion with an office in Miami, Florida. Coby products soon become favorites in Latin America, seen everywhere from the streets of Brazil to the shop windows of Paraguay.

Coby demonstrates its commitment to making media portable by creating a full-featured DVD player that is roughly the size of a portable Walkman CD player! The built-in 3.5" LCD screen makes it easy to take movies (and music) on the go.
USA Today later features the TF-DVD500 on the front page of their Money section, naming it a high-tech gadget that makes life on the go easier. This portable DVD marvel also proves to be a hit with U.S. soldiers stationed in Iraq!

The PMP-4320 Portable Multimedia Player is honored at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Coby takes media digital and portable with a veritable Swiss-army knife of a player. Marrying a gorgeous 4.3" widescreen LCD to a stunning super-slim design, this player did it all. The coup de grace - Video recording was built right in; you could record shows from any video source and then take it with you to watch later.
CNET later reviews the player, calling it an "underdog that leads the pack."

Coby moves east to Lake Success
After 16 years of calling Maspeth home, Coby bids a fond farewell to its original office and warehouse in Queens. Needing space to grow, Coby relocates to a newly constructed building 12 miles east in Lake Success, NY. Mr. Lee - owner and principle founder - cites a desire to give Coby employees the best working conditions, as well as the foundation and inspiration to lead the future.
